Cases of rideshare sexual abuse

Over the past several years, there has been a steady increase in reports of sexual assault and harassment linked to rideshare platforms such as Uber and Lyft. Survivors have reported inappropriate touching, verbal harassment and, in some cases, serious sexual violence.

Lawsuits often allege these incidents happen because of negligent driver screening, a lack of safety features, or a failure to properly investigate earlier complaints. Federal cases brought by passengers against Uber have been consolidated in In re: Uber Technologies, Inc., Passenger Sexual Assault Litigation, MDL No. 3084 (N.D. Cal.).

  • The incident happened during a ride booked through Uber or Lyft.
  • The incident happened outside California.
  • You may still qualify even if you never reported it to the police or to the rideshare company.
  • Time limits (statutes of limitations) vary by state, so it could help to ask sooner rather than later.
